DIY Red Carpet Stanchions

We recently put on a red carpet event, and instead of buying or renting those fancy stanchions and ropes, we decided to make our own. The poles are made out of PVC pipe with 3 layered wood bases and spray painted gold. The ropes are made out of pipe insulators covered with red velvet sleeves that Faith made. We used eye bolts and fasteners to connect the ropes to the poles. They were a lot of fun to make and looked great. We got the basic plans from crackerjacktheater.com, and then made it our own. Cracker Jack Theater has lots of other fun DIY projects like this, so check them out. IMG_1164

  1. The red carpet rope stanchions you made are fabulous and thank you for sharing.

I’m trying to make some myself for an event this scheduled for Sun., 12/20/15 and was wondering if Faith had a instructions re: making the fabric sleeves for the ropes? Oh and I don’t know how to sew, lol 🙂

  2. Hi Brynne,

For the bases we cut pieces of plywood into 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 squares and nailed together. We cut holes for the PVC pipe and made wood shanks to tighten them into the wood bases. For the basic plan We used crackerjacktheater.com. I think the base that they made was round, but for the sake of time we just cut our base into squares. It was a lot of fun to make. Good luck!

  3. This post is several years old, so it’s very possible that the link and/or site is no longer available. What questions did you have about your project?

  4. Hi Rose,

The PVC pipes are about 3 feet in length, which puts them about waste high for the average person’s height.

    Hope this helps.

    4×4 Inches? centimeters?

Is there any problem to paint the pvc pipe with gold spray?

    Thanks
